Testing Semisolids with a Dissolution Tester
Teledyne Hanson dissolution testers can be used to test semisolids such as patches, ointments, gels, and other topical preparations in conformance with methods such as USP Apparatus 5 – Paddle Over Disk, USP Apparatus 6 – Rotating Cylinder, and the immersion cell per USP <1724> Semisolid Drug Products—Performance Tests .
USP Apparatus 5 – Paddle Over Disk
USP Apparatus 5 – Paddle Over Disk, also called “Transdermal Sandwich” can be performed using Teledyne Hanson dissolution testers including the six-vessel Classic 6, the eight-vessel Elite 8, and the 14-vessel CD14. The App. 5 system accommodates patches up to 90 mm in diameter; required components are the transdermal sandwich (65-190-092) and adjustable height spacer (74-104-240).
USP Apparatus 6 – Rotating Cylinder
USP Apparatus 6 – Rotating Cylinder can be performed using Hanson 1-liter dissolution testers including the six-vessel Classic 6, the eight-vessel Elite 8, and the 14-vessel CD14. For patches up to 10 x 14 cm specify the App. 6 rotating cylinder (74-105-241) and the height spacer (74-105-243).
Immersion Cell – USP<1724>
The immersion cell per USP <1724> uses the Teledyne Hanson Classic 6 or Elite 8 dissolution tester along with several small volume accessories suited to the Easi-Lock vessel cover (74-104-163), including adapter ring (74-104-155), mini spin-paddle (74-105-203 or 74-105-204), 150-mL clear or amber flat-bottom vessels (74-105-152 or 74-105-162) and 15-mm-orifice immersion cells (65-190-043).
Dedicated Diffusion Testing Systems
The Phoenix™ dry heat diffusion testing systems from Teledyne Hanson Research are dedicated to high-precision diffusion-cell testing. They Phoenix family includes the six-cell DB-6 manual sampling system and our automated sampling RDS robotic diffusion station capable of testing up to 24 diffusion cells at once.
